East Riding of Yorkshire motion carried overwhelmingly
From the full council meeting of 26th Feb 2020 the motion presented by Linda Johnson which was carried overwhelmingly:
“Following the Government’s recent commitment of funding to reverse the closure of some railway lines, as a result of the Beeching report of 27 March 1963, which included a key East Riding rail corridor from Beverley to York
This Council believes that investing in green transport links is essential in ensuring that our region is better connected, and that our economy can flourish and agrees with the Rail Minister, who said recently that “Local MPs, Councillors and community Leaders are the greatest champions of their local lines, and that Government wants to work closely together to ensure the projects with the greatest potential have the support they need.”
This Council therefore resolves to write to the Rail Minister to confirm that we want to accept his offer, and work closely with Government and partners, to seriously assess the feasibility of re-establishing the Beverley to York line.
This Council also requests that Officers engage fully with partners and Government in producing an updated feasibility study for the Beverley to York line, and use their best endeavours to secure funding from the £300,000 Ideas Fund, which Government has allocated for such purposes.”
